Jack Bradford, Director

BJT’s 65th production “Thoroughly Modern Millie” has been a blast to direct and produce! Our actors and crew have worked incredibly hard to put this show together in just one week. “Millie” in particular has attracted a group of great dancers who love tapping. These performers have formed an exceptional ensemble of twenties flappers and dapper men. This show also has great solo numbers like “Gimme Gimme” and “Forget About the Boy”, that are just blow away musical theatre songs. We have had so much fun as a cast and crew bringing this show to life. The theme of this musical is about overcoming at all odds and persevering to accomplish your dreams. I want to thank our entire cast and crew, the sets, costumes, hair and make up and the BJT admin. I also want to thank the sound, lights, props and tech for their great work. Thanks also to the Church here at Albany Hills for your support. Thank you parents for encouraging your young performers to be a part of this great show. So now audience we invite you to sit back, relax, enjoy this BJT production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Synopsis

It’s 1922, and small-town girl Millie Dillmount has just arrived in New York City, ready to make her dreams come true. Millie’s plan is simple: find a job as a secretary for an eligible bachelor, and then marry him. It doesn’t take long, however, for Millie’s “thoroughly modern” plan to go awry. Her conniving landlady plots to kidnap Millie’s best friend and sell her into slavery. In Hong Kong, her wealthy boss seems entirely uninterested in her flirtations, and worst of all – the man with whom she falls head over heels in love doesn’t have a penny to his name. Winner of the 2002 Tony Award for Best Musical, this bright, funny, and charming musical comedy is a heartfelt valentine to New York City and the people who love her.
