Jack Bradford, Director

This is the first time Brisbane Junior Theatre has produced “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and I am so excited. I first saw Sutton Foster perform Forget About the Boy on the Tony Awards in 2001 and was blown away. I remember Julie Andrews playing Millie in the 1960’s movie of the same name and never imagined it would be a Broadway hit nearly 50 years later on the Eli stage. The story line is pure fun but the music is exciting, driving and filled with life. I think it will bring out the best in our young performers and production team. I want to thank all of our team this week including Geena and Coralie in Costumes. Debbie and Sandie in Admin, Janet, Zac, Chantelle, Jacob and Patrick in Production as well as the sets/preps crew of Carrie, Brian, Ian and Michael. Also our wonderful sound and light team of Glenda, Neil, Stephen, Nick and the others in Makeup and Hair have all helped make “Millie” a fantastic show. Finally, thanks to all the parents and performers who have worked so hard each day to create 20’s world of fun and fantasy. I hope you leave the theatre with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

Synopsis

Based on the 1967 film of the some name, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love – a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a slavery ring in China. The comic style of this musical will delight all audiences.
